The Yorkshire Coast is famous for many things … including great beach walks!
Tackling a great walk with the family pet being one of them! While beach bans are in place on the main beaches (May to September), there are plenty of other locations, some of which allow pooches whatever time of year it happens to be.
Runswick Bay … north of Whitby and a pretty as a postcard. A short walk of around two miles with cliffs and places to have some refreshments.
Bridlington’s South Beach … nice a flat beach at this most traditional of resorts. Dog restrictions apply May to September. Discover Bridlington’s history and enjoy an ice-cream!
Flamborough Head … with its stunning lighthouse, cafe or two and plenty of chalk cliffs.
Sandsend to Whitby … again, pooch restrictions apply and watch out for the tides! A slightly longer walk of about four miles which takes in the glorious scenery of this part of Yorkshire.
Cayton Bay … popular with surfers, with a steep drop into the bay itself. This is a secluded yet beautiful beach which gets covered by the tide.
Hunmanby Gap … great for the dogs and a hidden treasure.
Other beaches include Filey, Scarborough’s North and South Bays and Whitby.
